History

The Liechtenstein FA (LFV) was founded in 1934 by the Clubs FC Schaan, FC Balzers, FC Triesen and FC Vaduz. In 1954 joined the USV Eschen/Mauren (former FC Mauren, since 1963 as USV Eschen/Mauren). 1958 the FC Ruggell and as last Club 1972 FC Triesenberg were affiliated.

1974 was a milestone in the history of the LFV, in this year we got member of the FIFA (142nd Member) and of the UEFA (34th Member). The first official match of our National team was played on 9th March 1982 in Balzers, against our neighbour Switzerland. We only lost 0:1 in this very first game of our Team.

The Liechtenstein FA is also member of the Liechtensteinischen Olympischen Sportverbandes (LOSV) and as well a partner of the Ostschweizer Fussballverband (OFV).

According our agreement with the Swiss Football Association (SFV) our teams are playing in the Swiss championship since 1933, as it does not make sense to play a championship with only 7 Clubs. At the moment there are about 1’700 registered players in Liechtenstein.
